Matty J’s First Marathon!

A marathon has never been on my radar (and it still isn’t) but Matt was inspired by our training partners Abra and Braxton to do the Des Moines Marathon.  Abra did it last year and Matt did the half last year.  This year was Matt and Braxton’s first full 26.2 and I was so excited to cheer for them (plus my other running friends!)  Matt’s parents came up to celebrate the occasion and cheer too.

We caught Matt 3 points on the run and at the finish.  He looked great and chipper at all spots along the route…it was kind of shocking actually (that’s just how Matty J rolls though) but at the finish line, he did look like he’d run 26.2 miles.  His goal was 4:30 and he said at mile 17 he realized he was so far ahead of his goal he should try to break 4 hours.  At the finish line, he said he will regret that choice.  His final time was 4:10:06.

He’ll be joining our training partners Abra and Braxton for a stretching session later this evening.  They’ve been working with a personal trainer to help them get good stretching done after their long runs and Matt’s excited to try.  Hopefully between than, a carb-o-riffic dinner at Rock Bottom, a good epsom and aromatherapy soak, and some sleep he won’t be too sore tomorrow.

ImageSee, didn’t I say he is too darn chipper?  This is mile 15!

ImageSo proud of him!  It was so inspiring standing at the finish, I’m proud of lots of people today!

ImageI do not know why the medal pic keeps loading sideways (argh) but I’m leaving it because it was a really cool medal!
