The High Trestle Trail

Sunday was the first break in unbearable 100+ degree days for awhile so we took full advantage and finally made it out to ride parts of the High Trestle Trail with our friend Dan.  We decided this was a “for fun” as opposed to “for training” ride.  It is a stunning trail and I’m thrilled to see how a fitness activity like cycling can bring new life and business opportunities to small town Iowa.  The trail was pretty flat, but had some slight elevation changes.  There were areas to pull off and enjoy the scenery and a couple of non-porta-potty bathroom opportunities (hey, of course I’m going to take note!)

We started in Madrid and rode to Woodward, turned around and rode back a ways past Madrid and back to enjoy drinks in the Flat Tire Lounge.   Not only did we get to celebrate a beautiful day in Iowa, we enjoyed live music and the guys polished off some Iowa beers afterward.  Thankfully, Dan always comes armed with a camera and we can count on him for great pictures to remember days like this.

Dan took some great shots!

Thanks to Dan for this fun picture of Matty J and me.

If you think this is pretty, you should see Dan’s awesome video of riding across the bridge!

Yay, I finally get a photo credit…but it is with Dan’s camera so I don’t know that it counts. 🙂
